I Love New York!

So Hurricane Hannah Montana did NOT wash us all away in floods last week, and this week it looks like smoooth sailing.

Tonight, wednesday, as always, is the kooky Sweet n Low party at sugarland. $3 well drinks all night long, $1 Shooters and a free drink if you take off your pants. 221 n. 9 between driggs and roebling, featuring the musical stylings of dj Bryan and there's never a cover.

Thursday is gonna let you have it at mr. black, downstairs as always is the balls to the wall go-go fest BOYS GONE WILD, this week featuring that classy classy website that none of us have ever heard of (my word!), manhunt.net, with a very rare appearance by featured porn star damon demarco. he don't get out much.
BUT WAIT! Thursday is also the launch of the new upstairs party at mr. black...
I LOVE NEW YORK, hosted by Amanda Lepore and Cazwell. 27 w. 24th st between 5th and 6th, email me for list! 18 to enter (mmm chicken!) 21 to drink.

This Friday Gary 49 is giving you a very special LADYFAG birthday. Last year Lady was supposed to have a mr. black birthday but we were very abruptly closed, and she didn't get to have it... so this year, its ON! All kinds of kiki in store for this party, of course.

Saturday i'll be at Sugarland again... those of you who have made it out on a saturday to see me know that it is o lot of fun. lots of dancing, lots of cute boys, cheap drinks, go-go boys... email me if you wanna be on my list, $5 cover otherwise.

Sunday, DJs Are Not Rock Stars at mr. BLACK! Hosted by Sophia Lamar and a gaggle of kids, resident DJs Alexander Technique and Van Scott, with a rotating cast of guest djs. 5$ before midnight, 10$ after, email me for list!! :)

This week's Conflama...

I'm barely recovered from last weekend and already gearing up for THIS weekend... Thanks to everyone who came out this weekend, it was MUCH, and i hope you all were as turned out as I was.

Tonight its Sweet N Low at Sugarland, $3 well drinks, no cover, $1 shooters, hula hoops, maybe a limbo or two. If you take off your pants (and I know you all want to!) you get a free drink, so you will want to wear your cutest undies.

Thursday night the Boys are back for Jonny McGovern's BOYS GONE WILD, which is getting bigger and better every week, look for me on the dancefloor with the free shots, the hottest go-go boys this side of eastern europe, and dj tekshur always lets you have it as far as the beats are concerned.

Friday night its back to mr. BLACK with Gary 49, after last week's spectacle you wouldn't think we could do better, but VIENNA SAUSAGE is back, and if you've ever been at mr. black for this, you know that it is NOT one to be missed. (i'm not supposed to say who mr. sausage is, but if you google dj vienna sausage you'll find out)... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=dj+vienna+sausage&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=

Saturday, its the Deitch ART PARADE, i'll be glittering the streets with the Dazzle Dancers, and the after party is at Santo's Party House from 7-10, and then i'll be continuing on to Sugarland till the wee hours of the morning.

Sunday i'll be spending the afternoon in Tompkins park for the Howl! Festival and the downtown burlesque performance extravaganza Low Life. I went to this last year and its an absolutely AMAZING experience, so much fun. Later that night we'll be turning it out at mr. BLACK again for DJs Are Not Rock Stars with alexander technique and van scott. last weekend was off the hook (i can't believe I just used that expression, but it WAS!) and its definitely worth checking out if you didn't make it.

see you on the dancefloor!
xoxo

April in Review.

I'm so bad at this blogging thing lately... I guess the less I write, the more is going on in my life. Its been a crazy month. I had my birthday, turned *THIRTY*, have been working a lot, and getting geared up for the summer. I've been trying to quit smoking, which has been mostly effective, but working in the bars (and around alcohol!) makes it difficult.

This week was fun... lots of stuff going on... I go-go danced at the Squeezebox Movie afterparty on friday night and had a BLAST. It was really amazing to see so many familiar faces, amazing performances.

If Garfield Were a Real Cat...

Now you never have to spend sleepless nights wondering what Garfield would be like if he were a real cat. In my opinion, he's much funnier this way.

The Ones - When We Get Together

My friends and sisters The Ones released their first full-length album this week and with is premiered their new video for the track "When We Get Together". The song is GENIUS, very optimistic, very disco, very Sylvester. And the video.. well... the video is just as amazing. Directed by Karl Giant, The Ones brought together some familiar faces to be in the video, everyone from local club kids to Debbie Harry to the Scissor Sisters to drag queens to DJs, other artists... its amazing. I don't see the video online anywhere yet but i did find this behind the scenes footage...

Photos!

View from our new place... about as Brooklyn as it comes.

The kitchen! you know what they say about a man who likes a bit of chrome in his kitchen...

Me! To protect the innocent i cropped out my friend Mikey. also he looks much cuter than me so i couldn't keep him in the picture.

Hey Tranny!

I know the whole world has seen this snl skit by now but I have to post it anyway!

I LOVE YOU: CRAZY JAMES!

Big Brother spoilers posted below, don't read on unless you wanna know what happens!

So i'm completely addicted to Big Brother this season, mostly due to the fact that I actually KNOW one of the houseguests. Crazy James is the pink mohawked guy who is riding his bicycle around the world, with a few tattoos that need to be blurred by CBS censors... one is a priest dreaming about gay sex, and the one on his chest is the Brawny paper towel logo that says "Brawny: Prestigious Cunt". Needless to say, i fucking love the guy.

On tonight's live eviction, James was put on the chopping block, and two of the girls *swore* they had his back... all lies of course, and he was voted out with only one person voting for him to stay, his partner on the show. BUT, they then had to choose whether to bring him back, or pick a mystery houseguest that america had voted to bring back. (This all sounds very confusing, doesn't it?)

James is voted BACK into the house after a brief conversation with Julie Chen (yay Julie!) and then he pops out of a fucking box with a bow on the top. genius.

Julie (who barks instructions to the houseguests over the loudspeakers like a goddamn dominatrix) send them outside for the HoH competition. For those of you who don't know the game, HoH stands for Head of Household. The HoH (big H, small o, big H) gets a nicer room with some privacy from the other houseguests, and chooses who to put up for eviction next week. If You'd just been voted out of the house, and then came back in, you would really want to win HoH, because you would go from being out of the game, to running the show.

The game this week is some kind of convoluted disco torture version of an amusement park swing ride, except the houseguests are standing on a small disc-shaped platform, holding on to the chain, and a disco ball inexplicably dangles below them while foam shoots out of a giant champagne bottle made out of papier maché. the disco swing ride lifts into the air and they spin around, being shot with foam. Sounds ridiculous, right? Yet at this moment, its the most AMAZING thing I have seen on TV. I'm absolutely riveted. Crazy James, who had been evicted from the house just moments before, is now in a disco swing, holding on for dear life to win the HoH competition!

Unable to wait till the next episode to find out who wins, i find a blog updating the status of the competition after its gone off the air. Thank You Cinemablend! One by one, the houseguests start to fall or give up... everyone except james, who i'm sure would have held on until he passed out if necessary. JAMES WINS HoH!!! I have NO idea how this will impact the game, but James is a smart boy, and he's been given a second chance, and a BIG one, to turn the game around yet again.

So Here's to you Crazy James... I'm praying to every god I can that you win this money (Hello Osiris? Jebus? Thor?!), I don't think anyone in that house deserves it more than you!

March 1, 2008: I'm obsesed with...

With the attention span of... well, someone with very little attention span, I have a habit of going through fads or obsessions on a weekly basis. In an effort to get me writing in this damn blog again, I've started thinking about little things I can write about. This week, i'm obsessed with:

Dehydrated Strawberries in cereal! I can't stop eating them. My favorites this week are the Honey Bunches of Oats with Strawberries, and the Special K with Red Berries. I'm not sure why they call them "Red Berries" because from what I can see, they're just Strawberries, but I have my fingers crossed that i'll find another red berry in there one day... like a raspberry, or... another kind of... red... berry. My only complaint about the Special K is that the flakes don't taste like the flakes I remember from regular special K. Do these look like Special K flakes to you?

I didn't think so. If my dehydrated berry fixation continues, I'm thinking of buying myself a food dehydrator. Because dehydrated food is more fun to eat!

I'm also obsessed (as of today) with the new Mariah Carey single "Touch My Body". I'm sort of obsessed with Mariah Carey all the time though, so this really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Though when I catch someone on the subway sneak a peek at my iPod and i'm listening to "Always Be My Baby", i can see them looking me up and down: leather jacket, messy mohawk, three day scruff, i probably don't look like the guy who has this playing:

But I am definitely THAT guy.

This is hardly a new obsession, but LOST is back on the air, and i plan my entire Thursdays around it. I am starting a new day job this week and I'll be working Thursdays from probably 10am-6pm, then home for dinner and LOST, then back out to the night job from 11pm-5am. SOunds horrible I know, but i'm off on fridays so its ok. The thing about the day job is that its a fanTASTIC opportunity for me and even though it won't be paying the bills, its going to open a lot of doors and give me some amazing experience to do with Writing, Art, Photography, Fashion and PR... bascially a combination of all of my passions.

But back to LOST. Gaaaah! SO great. As far as I'm concerned its the most perfect TV show on the air, especially for a big dork like me. Sexy survivors on a mysterious island with strange properties... intrigue, sex, lies, betrayal, suspense (and WHAT suspense, jesus christ, it nearly gives me anxiety attacks). The phone call this week between Desmond and Penny was SO great.

Other things i'm obsessed with this week (in no particular order):

Penne with Vodka sauce

American Idol's Danny "Proud Mary" Noriega:

Robyn - With Every Heartbeat

2008!

It seems almost silly to be bringing back this blog, over 3 months after my last post... but here it is anyway. I'm bored and feel like writing, and maybe I'm just too lazy to start a NEW blog.

2007 was probably one of the worst years of my life, in so many ways. I know from reading the blog it probably looks like I'm saying "look how fabulous my life is!" but in reality, I think half of what I write is just to convince MYSELF that things are good. Lets see, in 2007 i was robbed at gunpoint, thrown in jail, lost my job, almost evicted from an apartment infested with rats... and went into a self imposed downward spiral of doing a lot of drinking, drugging and partying that really took a toll on me.

I guess what I learned from that is that, when depressed, its only good to self-medicate to a POINT, because eventually the medication becomes the problem, and then you have to medicate your medications, and on and on.

I was sort of lost in the fall, without a real job or real purpose to keep me grounded, i felt very much adrift and aimless, which is why i stopped writing in the blog. What would my posts have been? Saw another rat in my bedroom today, made me so upset i went out and drank too much and don't remember how I got home. Fun stuff!

But, eventually I realized how self-destructive I was being... I got a new job, found a new (and very much improved) place to live, and have really started to take care of myself again. I'm quitting smoking again... down to one or two every three days, and by next week i hope to be rid of those.

So thats all for now... i'll probably be posting a lot in the next few days, plenty to talk about!

mr. black update...

From mr. black himself:

To all of mr. Blacks bitches!

Mr Black and Miss Black have made a very difficult decision in
regards to mr Black Dance Den at its present location. The decision
has been made to move mr Black to a larger space due to the tremendous
demand and success of the nightclub. Mr Black will not re-open in its
current location and is expected to re-open in its larger incarnation
in January 2008. It is quite obvious that any past trouble that has
occurred from mr Black was due to overwhelming demand of an
underground bar turning into a cutting edge nightclub , hence the
solution to the problem is our present decision. We know our fan base
will be very lost in the coming months so stay tuned for upcoming
details about future monthly parties until the Grand re-opening in
January 2008. Go to www.mrblacknyc.com for accurate updates. New Live
DJ sets will be available weekly in the mr Black Podcast.

We thank everyone for their continued support. Rest assured that we
are not going anywhere and this difficult decision to close
temporarily is to ensure long term success and continued fun for
everyone.

See you all on the dance floor very soon.

Sloppy kiss, Mr Stuart Black.

..

From Jeff:
i just wanna thank everyone for everything! mr. black is the best place i've ever worked, with the best staff, and the best customers on earth.
The past year for me at mr. black has been an AMAZING experience, and i'm excited about being a part of the next phase of mr. black. stay tuned!

Till then... keep me in mind for anywork that might come along... in nightlife, daylife, temporary or permanent... make me an offer i can't refuse!! ;)

hiding in plain sight

haven't posted much in the last little while... haven't had much to say? what can i say that hasn't been said before? my work is still not open, i'm broke (savings? me? ha!), and i'm just getting over the weird chest cold i got from sleeping on a cement floor. waaaah. poor me. whatever.

chin up, cheer up, blah blah blah, i try to keep my spirits up, as i've done so many times before, but seriously though... WTF? The media did a pretty good job of painting those of us arrested as drug dealers, even though all of our charges were dropped, but thats not glamorous and no one bothers to report the truth. fuck, the police didn't bother to consider the truth when they arrested us, so why the fuck would the press care?

Its depressing, because I really pride myself on being a good person. I'm a hard worker, a good employee, and i'm not a criminal. I'm *not* a bad guy... I know so many people in so-called "respectable" careers: doctors, lawyers, teachers, and office workers... and they keep the drug industry runnin in this city. They take off their ties and break out the crack pipes. Being targeted simply because i'm in a nightclub or work in a nightclub is so antiquated, and it *really* bothers me that more of the gay media has not been giving this story more exposure.

Tricia Romano wrote a great article in the VILLAGE VOICE about the situation, which says at much as it can since the court case is still pending.

I don't know, I don't have anything new to say, like I already said... (ugh, redundant much?), but I feel ike venting, or breaking something.
